External display missing or apps look wrong
Separate a missing signal from scaling and workspace issues.
Based on public documentation; not hardware-tested. Match the instructions to your version and hardware.
Which problem do you have?
Section titled “Which problem do you have?”| Symptom | First comparison |
|---|---|
| Display says “no signal” | Direct cable versus dock, correct monitor input |
| Desktop visible but text is too large | One app versus every app |
| Window seems lost | Another workspace versus a disconnected display |
| Failure after closing the lid | Open-lid baseline versus closed-lid behavior |
Return to a simple setup
Section titled “Return to a simple setup”Open the laptop lid. Connect one monitor directly with a known-working cable where possible. Disable only the last experimental setting by restoring its previous value.
If you can open a terminal in the active graphical session, collect detected display information:
hyprctl monitorsDo not copy someone else’s connector name or display mode into your configuration.
If only an application is affected
Section titled “If only an application is affected”Compare a browser and a terminal on the same screen. Restart the affected app after a scaling change. Record whether the issue appears only when crossing between monitors.
If it follows an update
Section titled “If it follows an update”Keep the version and recent configuration changes together in your report. A historical fix for an earlier Hyprland version may use a different configuration format.
