Screenshots and screen recording

Capture a useful image or short recording, find the output, and share the right details.

Based on public documentation; not hardware-tested. Match the instructions to your version and hardware.

The current manual documents Print Screen for a screenshot, Alt + Print Screen to start or stop recording, and Super + Ctrl + C for the capture menu when your keyboard has no Print Screen key.

Open the screenshot overlay. Drag a region, click a window, or click open space for the focused monitor. Esc cancels. The result is saved and copied to the clipboard; the default folder is ~/Pictures/Screenshots.

Before sharing, open the saved image and check the edges. A tightly cropped error message should still include enough context to identify the application. Hide unrelated conversations, tokens, or personal information.

Start screen recording and choose the audio option, then the region, window, or monitor. Reproduce one issue and stop using Alt + Print Screen again or the top-bar indicator. The default output is an MP4 in ~/Videos.

Play it back before sending. Confirm that the relevant action is visible and that the chosen audio was captured. A short example showing the starting state, action, and result is easier to follow than a long desktop tour.

Check the default folder first, then whether you configured a different output location. The manual names OMASNAP_SCREENSHOT_DIR for screenshots and OMARCHY_SCREENRECORD_DIR for recordings; a custom recording directory must already exist.

If nothing happens on the keyboard shortcut, try the capture menu. If that works, inspect local keybindings. If both fail, record the Omarchy version, display arrangement, and which capture action failed.

For an installation failure before the desktop appears, use a photo from another device. For a desktop issue, attach the smallest useful capture with the steps from the help-request template.
